Description

Yvette van der Merwe is an expert in the South African wine sector with almost 30 years' experience. A business graduate, she began her career as an economist in the Department of Agriculture before joining the wine industry in 1996. Since 2003, she has held the position of Executive Director of SAWIS (South African Wine Industry Information and Systems), where she oversees the certification and statistical information services. On the international scene, she has been a member of the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) delegation since 2000 and is currently Chair of the Economics and Law Commission. She is a candidate for the presidency of the OIV, and in 2024 became the first African woman to hold this prestigious post since the organisation was founded in 1924.
