Varietal innovation strategy: resistant grape varieties and challenges for sparkling wine production

Launched by INRAE in 2000, the ResDur varietal innovation programme
has already led to the registration of eighteen grapevine varieties
with polygenic resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, now cultivated
on nearly 1,500 hectares in France. Beyond these successes, the ResDur programme
provides a foundation for future varietal innovation, particularly for
the production of sparkling wines.
