Consorzio Tutela del Vino Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco
Description
The Consortium of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG represents all the categories of producers from the historical area of Conegliano Valdobbiadene: vine-growers, wine- producing firms and bottling companies. The main topics around which all of the Consortium’s activities revolve are assisting the producers, from the vineyard to the winery; safeguarding the consumer; promoting Conegliano Valdobbiadene D.O.C.G. in Italy and around the world and protecting the environment. It is in fact the Consortium that is in the vanguard as regards promoting the values of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene brand, orienting attention towards the development of the area and environmental sustainability, highlighting history as a springboard for planning the future, and working hard to preserve the superior quality of this wine over the course of time.
The history of the Consortium starts in 1962 when a group of 11 producers, representing the large sparkling wine houses and the main cooperatives of vine-growers, formed the Consortium for Safeguarding Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco, proposing a set of production regulations that would protect the quality and image of their wine. Seven years later, on 2nd April 1969, their efforts were rewarded with the recognition by the Ministry of Agriculture of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene as the D.O.C. production zone for Prosecco and Superiore di Cartizze. With this act, the production of Prosecco was recognized by law and regulated formally by the institutions for the first time. In 2009, with the reorganization of the Prosecco denominations, the Ministry of Agriculture classified Conegliano Valdobbiadene as a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (D.O.C.G.), the highest level of quality in Italy.
